Our Approach
We believe that immersion is the best method for successfully learning the French language and understanding French and Francophone cultures. Through immersion, you receive maximum exposure to the French language allowing you to successfully study and maintain your French language skills. We offer classes for all ages and fluency levels in a supportive and stimulating environment, with instruction that emphasizes both a conversational and contextual approach to language learning. And, you will find that our classes and workshops fully integrate the language and the diversity of the French culture giving you a deeper understanding of French life.

In your classes at the Alliance Française de Seattle, you will progress along a comprehensive learning program that follows the AF FRAMES (Alliance Française French- American Educational Standards), a program based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages Educational Standards (CEF). The program offers beginner through advanced levels, with each new level building upon the previous one until you have achieved fluency and confidence. Whatever your level of French may be, you can progress with assurance that your language skills will improve as efficiently as possible.

The Alliance Française de Seattle offers a wide array of beginner to advanced and specialized courses (classes à thèmes) to match your interests, whether linguistic, cultural or professional. We require a minimum of 5 students to open a course and enroll no more than 12 students per class, thus ensuring an optimal student-teacher ratio in each class. If you have no knowledge of French, you may enroll in Beginners Level 101 course. If you have studied French before, but not with us, please call our Director of Education at 206.632.5433 to arrange an appointment for an evaluation. You will need a minimum of 24 to 36 class hours to progress from one level to the next.

Your Teachers
Our professional instructors are native French speakers or people with equivalent French language proficiencies, whose goals are to create a learning experience that is productive and enjoyable for you. Our classes à thèmes are taught by experts in their field, chosen for their expertise and interpersonal skills. Our instructors attend special educator workshops to keep abreast of the most up-to-date teaching methods, information, and best practices.

AF FRAMES  Our commitment to quality.
The Alliance Française de Seattle is incorporating the Alliance Française French- American Educational Standards, commonly known as AF FRAMES. AF FRAMES is adapted from the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEF), a program that sets international standards for the succession of stages in learning languages. The CEF has been implemented in many European countries at renowned language institutes such as the Goethe Institut and the Istituto Culturale Italiano. A number of American universities and several United States school districts are using the CEF. The AF FRAMES program was created under the guidance of the Délégation Générale de l'Alliance Française de Paris aux Etats-Unis using the CEF's philosophy and standards for effective language education in the United States. In participating in the AF FRAMES program, the Alliance Française de Seattle clearly demonstrates its commitment to pedagogical excellence and to providing the highest quality education for our students.
