WINTER25 - Petits Français Explorers: Introduction to French for Beginners (3rd-5th grade McGilvra)

Welcome to our French Enrichment Program at McGilvra Elementary!

Tailored for 3rd-5th grade students without any prior knowledge of the language, this program offers a playful and immersive introduction to French.

In our play-based approach, students will participate in exciting activities that encourage language development, cultural appreciation, and self-expression. Through games, music, and other engaging activities, our experienced and passionate instructors will guide students through hands-on experiences, making each session a delightful exploration of French language and culture.

By the end of the program, your child will have an understanding of basic French vocabulary and phrases, and a newfound appreciation for the language. Join us for a captivating experience where learning is dynamic, fun, and filled with the joy of discovering a new language! No textbook/workbook to purchase.

Classes will take place at McGilvra Elementary School in Room ________.

WINTER25 - Tortues 1 - A1.1 (Part 1)

General French Youth (9-12)
The first year of the A1 beginner program for 9-12 year olds, Les Tortues 1.

For three quarters, along with the textbook and workbook Les Loustics 1 and various action-oriented and creative activities, students will learn to construct simple phrases in French. Topics related to everyday life will allow students to introduce themselves and others, to describe their environment, and to express their feelings and preferences. The workbook also offers a progressive introduction to writing. All activities are conducted mainly in French with an immersive approach.

Textbook (not included in tuition): Les Loustics 1

Prerequisite: none for Part 1. If you wish to start at Part 2 or 3, you will need an A1.1 result at our placement test, followed by an oral assessment with our Admissions Coordinator.

Next course: After completing Part 1, 2 and 3 of Les Tortues 1, students can enroll in Les Tortues 2 in the following academic year.
Pace: Regular, 10 weeks, 1h once a week, total of 10h

WINTER25 - Tortues 1 - A1.1 (Part 2)

General French Youth (9-12)

The second year of the A1 beginner program for 9-12 year olds, Les Tortues 2. Students in the course have some basic skills in French—they can use simple phrases to introduce themselves and describe their environment, feelings, and preferences.

For three quarters, along with the textbook and workbook Les Loustics 2 and various action-oriented and creative activities, students will strengthen the basic skills learned in Les Lézards 1 while gaining a broader vocabulary. Topics related to everyday life will allow students to discover more verbal phrases and to approach the future tense and the sense of formality in the French language. All activities are conducted mainly in French with an immersive approach.

Textbook (not included in tuition): Les Loustics 2

Prerequisite: To start this course at Part 1, you will need to have completed the course Les Tortues 1 or received a Youth A1.2 result at our placement test. If you wish to start at Part 2 or 3, you will need a Youth A1.2 result at our placement test, followed by an oral assessment with our Admissions Coordinator.

Next course: After completing Part 1, 2 and 3 of Les Tortues 2, students can enroll in Les Tortues 3 in the following academic year.

WINTER25 - Tortues 2 - A1.2 (Part 2)

General French Youth (9-12)
The second year of the A1 beginner program for 9-12 year olds, Les Tortues 2. Students in the course have some basic skills in French—they can use simple phrases to introduce themselves and describe their environment, feelings, and preferences.

For three quarters, along with the textbook and workbook Les Loustics 2 and various action-oriented and creative activities, students will strengthen the basic skills learned in Les Lézards 1 while gaining a broader vocabulary. Topics related to everyday life will allow students to discover more verbal phrases and to approach the future tense and the sense of formality in the French language. All activities are conducted mainly in French with an immersive approach.

WINTER25 - Tortues 3 - A1+ (Part 2)

General French Youth (9-12)
The third and final year of the A1 beginner program for 9-12 year olds, Les Tortues 3.

In this course, students will review and reinforce concepts learned throughout the A1 beginner program so as to prepare for the DELF Prim A1 exam, an official certificate awarded by the French Ministry of Education to certify proficiency in French as a Foreign Language. The exam, administered by certified instructors at AFSeattle, is adapted to a young audience and designed to promote confidence and encourage continued interest in the language.

At this level, students can already use simple phrases to introduce themselves and describe their immediate environment, simple feelings, and basic preferences. This class is a great review of the textbooks and workbooks Les Loustics 1 and 2.

Textbook: No textbook required. All materials will be made available for download on our e-learning platform Apolearn.

Prerequisite: To start this course at Part 1, you will need to have completed the course Les Tortues 2 or received a Youth A1.3 result at our placement test. If you wish to start at Part 2 or 3, you will need a Youth A1.3 result at our placement test, followed by an oral assessment with our Admissions Coordinator.

Next course: Students who have completed Les Tortues 3 (Part 1, 2 and 3) can enroll in our A2 program Les Pingouins for 9-12 year olds in the following academic year, starting at Les Pingouins 1.

Youth A2 Intermediate

WINTER25 - Pingouins 1 - A2.1 (Part 2)

General French Youth (9-12)
The first year of the A2 intermediate program for 9-12 year olds, Les Pingouins 1. For students who have finished the A1 beginner level and are comfortable interacting in French in a simple way—they can speak and write about themselves and their environment.

For three quarters, along with the textbook and workbook Les Loustics 3 and various action-oriented and creative activities, students will be able to have a basic conversation in French through topics related to their everyday life and environment. In addition to broadening their vocabulary and strengthening the use of the present and future tenses, students will be introduced to the past tense and learn how to talk about personal experiences. All activities are conducted mainly in French with an immersive approach.

Textbook (not included in tuition): Les Loustics 3

Prerequisite: To start at Part 1, we require a Youth A2.1 result at our placement test, or having completed either Les Lézards 3 or Les Tortues 3. If you wish to start at Part 2 or 3, you will need a Youth A2.1 result at our placement test, followed by an oral assessment with our Admissions Coordinator.

Next course: After completing Part 1, 2 and 3 of Les Pingouins 1, students can enroll in Les Pingouins 2 in the following academic year.
Pace: Regular, 10 weeks, 1h once a week, total of 10h

WINTER25 - Pingouins 2 - A2.2 (Part 2)

General French Youth (9-12)
The second year of the A2 intermediate program for 9-12 year olds, Les Pingouins 2. Students are comfortable interacting in French in a simple way.

For three quarters, along with the textbook and workbook Les Loustics 3 and various action-oriented and creative activities, students will expand their capacity to talk about themselves and those close to them, and will learn to talk about events in the past with more precision. They will also formulate opinions and navigate a variety of situations related to daily life. All activities are conducted mainly in French with an immersive approach.

Textbook (not included in tuition): Les Loustics 3

Prerequisite: To start at Part 1, we require a Youth A2.2 result at our placement test, or having completed Les Pingouins 1. If you wish to start at Part 2 or 3, you will need a Youth A2.2 result at our placement test, followed by an oral assessment with our Admissions Coordinator.

Next course: After completing Part 1, 2 and 3 of Les Pingouins 2, students can enroll in Les Pingouins 3 in the following academic year.
